Asynchronous Transfer Mode is a transferring data in packets; it can be applied in high speed local area networks, such as cable, optical fibre and broadband-ISDN networks. It allows the transmission of a big amount of data in realtime; in general, the bandwidth is between 1.5 and 622 Mbps.
