Saudi Arabian King Abdullah University Implements SAP Solution
SAP Business Suite for the “City of Science”
As of September 2009, the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in Saudi Arabia will be using SAP Business Suite for its administrative functions, thus enhancing the student experience.
Construction is still underway at the Saudi Arabian University on the Red Sea near Thuwal. Yet King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud has an ambitious goal: The university bearing his name is to be world class from the outset. The school is envisioned to become an international research facility for graduate-level and doctoral students. Research will focus on areas such as energy and environment, engineering sciences, biosciences as well as mathematics and computer sciences.
The SAP Business Suite implementation at KAUST is currently one of the largest IT projects in the Middle East. The university is implementing SAP Real Estate Management, an application of SAP ERP Corporate Services, and SAP Student Lifecycle Management from the SAP for Higher Education & Research solution portfolio.
SAP Real Estate Management supports the development, construction, operation, service and maintenance of the university facilities. SAP Student Lifecycle Management optimizes the day-to-day operations – from recruitment and admissions to schedule building and financial management. The applications are integrated and further developed by means of the SAP NetWeaver technology platform.
“We consider SAP a strategic partner who is helping us build a service-oriented IT infrastructure”, explains the IT manager of KAUST, Majid Alghaslan. “KAUST is more than just a regular university. It is a ‘City of Science’ that we are building for the future of Saudi Arabia and the world.”

The SAP for HE&R solution portfolio is designed to meet the unique demands of universities, research institutions and private or public agencies managing education. The portfolio includes the SAP Student Lifecycle Management application, which allows educational institutions to manage all core processes in the student academic cycle and thereby provide better services to their students. At the same time, the portfolio also covers all administrative processes.
SAP for HE&R offers an integrated set of solutions to help facilitate research, teaching and study, as well as specific functions to manage all core processes on and around campus.
