Putting a Sparkle into IT

Sektkellerei Schloss Wachenheim AG extends its SAP landscape

Sektkellerei Schloss Wachenheim AG, headquartered in Trier, Germany, and the world’s leading sparkling and semi-sparkling wine producer, has implemented a new SAP application for financial accounting. The project was completed by BASF IT Services, based in Ludwigshafen, Germany, which integrated the applications in Schloss Wachenheim’s existing logistics processes.

As well as implementing an SAP financial accounting solution, BASF IT Services installed special software for wine accounting. With this software, Schloss Wachenheim can document all the information related to the wine business – from purchasing through bottling. What’s more, new interfaces between the wine accounting software and the SAP solution ensure that the data can be transferred and further processed. This represents a new addition to Schloss Wachenheim’s homogeneous SAP IT landscape, which BASF implemented back in 2005 to optimize its customer’s processes in materials management, sales and distribution, stockholding, and production.

“Schloss Wachenheim’s logistics and financial accounting systems used to be separate from one another and could only communicate through interfaces,” says Thomas Lorentz, department manager for finance solutions at BASF IT Services. He explains that, by standardizing mission-critical applications, Schloss Wachenheim can shape its business processes more efficiently, and ultimately evaluate business intelligence with greater ease and speed.

Hans Jürgen Klein, commercial manager at Schloss Wachenheim AG, believes the new solution brings real added value: “Our enhanced SAP landscape enables us to tap all the ERP potential provided by the software. At the same time, it forms the basis for a comprehensive rollout of SAP applications to our company’s other European sites.”
